Marine Protected Areas - a network of underwater and coastal parks

Had a chance to meet Ari Marcopoulos the other day, here in North Beach, SF. Frank Soloman the South African made the intro and we managed to connect and chat about some of the pressing issues presented in his new film promoting the approval of the Marine Life Protection Act and the creation of a network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in our oceans. This movement has been gathering some serious momentum and its awesome to see friends and top-notch Mavericks surfers continue to actively stand up for the environment.

The whole world is watching and on May 14th join the Ocean Conservancy, Save The Waves, Surfrider and many of the major ocean-minded organizations come to Sacramento. The goal is to show support for the MPAs during a Public Hearing with the Fish and Game Commission for the passing of this critical and cutting-edge bill.
Fishermen also need and want healthy oceans, they have a vested interest in keeping the marine environment vibrant but a divide beween fishermen and surfers/marine environmentalists is being artificially created, putting some fishermen against this conservation initiative.
May 14th in Sacramento: protect our oceans and help them do their critical job in curbing climate change.
